Description
Alvorada are the UK’s leading performers of choro, a rich and uplifting style of music from Brazil. Choro emerged in Rio de Janeiro from a meeting of African rhythms and European harmony, and also contains parallels with jazz and folk music. Alvorada unites musicians from London and Brazil, whose diverse backgrounds lend the group a unique edge.
Their debut album, First Light, contains original compositions alongside intricate arrangements of choro classics old and modern, revisiting the genre from the perspective of their London home. The album explores influences from across Brazil, from the irresistible swing of samba from the South to infectious baião from the Northeast, with an immediacy and vibrancy that delights listeners everywhere.
Alvorada are: Rachel Hayter (flutes), Andrew Woolf (clarinets / saxophone), Luiz Morais (7 string guitar), Jeremy Shaverin (cavaquinho), Alua Nascimento (percussion)
