Description
This CROWD FUNDED album is Ian Bruce’s coming of age release. It’s the “Dad’s Army” of the current folk scene. Many of the major survivors have come together with Ian to duet with him.
Ian is renowned for his songwriting, Burns’ renditions and powerful yet sensitive delivery. He also steals the show with the odd cover version. Graeme Miles’ “My Eldorado” and Julie Gold’s “From a Distance” to name but two.
This album was inevitable. 32 Cover songs, some old favourites and some less well known. The double CD finishes with one Self-Penned work aptly titled “AND WE SING!”
It’s a powerhouse of a collection which does not easily sit in a single pigeonhole. All these songs mean something special to Ian. Some surprise choices on here.
Morningtown Ride was the song Ian sang to his mother as she lay dying after a massive stroke. A version of “Where Do You Go To My Lovely” because he remembers so well that old favourite waking him in the early hours before his paper run in 1967.
Other songs are simply there because they are bloody fantastic and shaped his musical taste, and possibly career, according to Ian.
It is a “MUST HAVE” for any folk music fan or, to be honest, anyone who just likes a good selection of some of the best folk songs ever written.
