Folk songs and music, including 10 original tracks not previously recorded.

In addition to six fine, original songs written by Ian, there are four instrumentals not previously recorded including two written specifically for the CD. As a bonus there are five great traditional songs and tunes to complete the 15 tracks and 50 minutes of music. An illustrated 16 page booklet with song/tune notes and the words of all the songs is included with the CD.

Ian Young is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose lifelong passion for folk music started at school in the famous ballads club at Rutherglen Academy started by the late Norman Buchan. Ian has past recording experience with The Ian Davison Group and Na H’eilthireach, and more recently concert appearances with Fairmile and Wayfaring Strangers at Edinburgh Fringe. He also performed at Celtic Connections in Glasgow 2018 and 2020. Ian has won the Edinburgh folk song club’s song-writing competition in 2017 (Time and Tide) and was also a prize-winner jointly with Nigel Gatherer with Monzievaird Hall in 2019. He has won the annual song- writing competition at Nitten folk club on four occasions. (Land of the Long White Cloud; The Edinburgh Colonel; Mind o’ them; The Last of the Trees) and he is a past winner of the TMSA traditional singing award.

A fine group of ‘weel kent’ singers and musicians have supported Ian in this project and have given generously of their time and skills and all the proceeds from the initiative goes to Parkinson’s UK (Edinburgh) and St Columba’s Hospice. The Friends are: Fiona Murdoch (fiddle and viola), Nigel Gatherer (whistle), Brian Miller (guitar and mandolin) James Campbell (fiddle and viola), Jim Weatherston (vocals, guitar and bass), May Weatherston and Annie Young (vocals).
