Description
When Adam Was A Boy, the new album from Clydeside singer songwriter Joe McMahon, finds him in the studio with two members of Blazin’ Fiddles, respected musicians at the top of their game Angus Lyon, on accordion, piano and keyboards, and Anna Massie, on guitar, banjo, mandolin and stomp box. Joe sings and plays guitar accompanied by Angus and Anna with Susy Wall, from the Black Country, providing striking backing vocals and harmonies. There are also contributions from Scottish heavyweight contemporaries such as James Grant, Findlay Napier and Willie Campbell amidst other fine guest musicians.
Clydesider McMahon is proud of his roots and draws inspiration from life’s great adventure, characters, events and personal experiences that have left a lasting impact. His writing touches on areas of common experience from the wistful, romantic and humorous to those reflecting on more difficult aspects of the daily grind.
According to James Grant, “Joe is a fine songwriter with a great storytelling voice.”
On listening through the songs, Findlay Napier opined, “I would be proud to put that album out myself.,” whilst sound engineer Chris Waite remarked, “The songs are sounding really great and there’s lots of great arrangement and instrumentation stuff going on. A real pleasure to work on.”
Although McMahon has been writing and crafting songs his entire adult life and his previous album, A Day To Remember, was delivered to online streaming platforms and has received national radio play, this second album, in terms of marketing, production and reach is effectively, at the age of 61, his debut.
Although he may think he’s old enough to know When Adam Was A Boy, his music will help you live for today.
