Description
SHADOWLAND is the debut album from songwriter Johnny Steinberg. Mixing Contemporary Folk and Americana influences the 10 tracks pay tribute to the musical traditions on both sides of the Atlantic.
Recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, and in England and Denmark the CD is the culmination of a song writing journey that started in 2011 when Johnny sleepwalked into a career in music after facing redundancy. Music picked him up and he picked music up.
He is joined on the album by producers and collaborators Boo Hewerdine (The Bible/ State of the Union) and multi-instrumentalist Chris Pepper and aided by a trans-Atlantic group of other brilliant musicians and singers including Nashville’s Kira Small (Willie Nelson/ Garth Brooks/ Martina McBride) and steel guitar player Gustaf Ljungren.
The CD comes with a beautiful 20-page booklet that tells the SHADOWLAND story with photographs from Johnny’s USA and Cuban adventures and tours and answers the questions: Why did it take so long to get an album out and why is there a Texan water tower on the cover?
“Johnny’s songs have tremendous heart, vulnerability and compassion. He’s made me cry on the first listen to a song and that is a rare and potent gift to possess as a story teller and song-writer” Karine Polwart—BBC Folk Award Winner (2005,2007, 2017, 2018 and 2019)
“Johnny is such a talent, I find myself shocked at how much he grows as a songwriter writer. He has humour and focus in his writing and his imagination knows no bounds, it is always a real treat to hear his songs and watch him play. Johnny is one of the hardest working artists I know. And that’s why we love him!” Chris Difford – Grammy nominated and double Ivor Novello Award winning member of the chart-topping band SQUEEZE
