Description
The harpsichord’s twentieth century revival has inspired successive generations of modern composers to produce new works that have taken the instrument far beyond its historical confines. For this CD Sara Stowe has put together a varied collection of works from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, most of which are recorded for the first time.
In the three compositions by the prolific American composer Alan Hovhaness, the harpsichord is given a uniquely melodic voice imbedded in a tonal folk-infused musical language that is both rhapsodic and finely crafted.
